It’s a family holiday so you want a nice mix of things to do for everyone. You’ll find that a lot of the activities in Phuket are based around water, after all, we are an island.
It’s easy to arrange a boat tour out to one of the nearby islands, Koh Khai, Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay and Krabi are all accessible for a day’s cruise out to sea. Discover some amazing snorkelling spots, the water is warm and shallow and just under the surface the sea teems with colourful tropical parrot, butterfly and puffer fish. It’s a real adventure, exhilarating and enjoyable for everyone, if you’re feeling extravagant then treat the family to a day on a private luxury yacht with Andaman Cruises and make it truly memorable.
More water-based activities can be found at The Splash Jungle Park at Mai Khao Beach. ‘Phuket’s wettest, wildest water park’ has a wave pool, a 335m lazy river, some fantastic real adrenaline-rush rides, and huge body and tube water slides.
Teenage kids can be harder to please, though they should be thrilled with the wakeboarding at Anthem, a 50,000 sqm fresh water lake surrounded by jungle. There’s a full-size main cable and a smaller one for beginners, also a chill-out zone, massage facilities and pool if you just want to watch.
Also challenging is the Jungle Xtreme Adventure Park with the highest tree-climbing in Asia. Kids and adults will love this place as you walk amongst the treetops on suspension bridges, cables, and nets.
Thai culture is very different from anything in the west and Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand. For something completely different take a trip to the Big Buddha in Chalong, follow the winding mountain road up to the highest point on the island where the huge statue of Buddha sits waiting. He can’t fail to impress at a height of 45m. Receive a blessing from the monks who live there and check out the magnificent views across the island.
