We’ve explored ways to help you maintain your healthy living momentum whilst enjoying your tropical retreat. With a little planning you can easily stay motivated and keep up your regular exercise regime here in Phuket, so let’s take a look at some activities to keep you energised:

1. Muay Thai Training

Use your time in Phuket to get active whilst learning an ancient art of self-defence. A more traditional fitness sports on the island, Muay Thai has been practised for centuries in Thailand but has grown in popularity over the last 10 years. You can opt for a trial class, intensive one-on-one sessions or weekly programs.

Some places have MMA, Boxing, Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to select from and many Muay Thai gyms have champion Thai boxers working at them. A few options to get you started include Tiger Muay Thai, Sutai Muay Thai, Sumalee Camp and Phuket Fight Club.

2. Rock Climbing

As well as being good fun and challenging, rock climbing can also help enhance your fitness, hand, foot and eye coordination and is great training for flexibility and strength. Here in Phuket, we are lucky to have a full-scale indoor facility at Rebel Rock Climbing.

There is something for all levels here with over 700m2 of wall climbing challenges including a boulder wall, top-out boulder wall, boulder cave and lead climb wall. Onsite you will find an equipment pro-shop and they offer courses for beginner to advanced levels, with staff on hand to help out with their belay service.

3. Gyms & Fitness Centres

For the more active gym goers out there, you do not need to skip your training sessions whilst in Phuket and can maintain your healthy fitness activities whilst on holiday. Palm Fitness situated at Twinpalms Hotel features a 250m2 fitness gym with cardio machines and free weights, as well as drop-in classes and private instruction in yoga, Pilates personal training and Muay Thai.

Alternatively there are numerous gyms, classes and schedules to select from for all levels and fitness goals around the island such as U Time Fitness and Alpha Health Club.

4. Bike Trails

Get yourself out in the fresh tropical air, sunshine and immerse yourself in Mother Nature whilst benefiting your body and mind by cycling outdoors. Explore the ‘Forest’ at Blue Tree, where you will find a vast public park with different tracks including mountain bike trails. You may also rent bikes on site there for ease.

For something more adventurous discover some challenging trails in Phuket using the Strava Global Heatmap application, where you can track your ride, discover trails that others have been on as well as exploring uploaded routes including the Phuket Coastal Route trail.

5. CrossFit

After starting in California in 2000 and being swiftly taken up by individuals in the military and firefighting services, CrossFit has seen significant worldwide growth. It consists of high intensity interval training and is aimed at strengthening and conditioning the body.

For those of you who wish to keep up your sessions of functional movement performed at a high intensity levels, Phuket has a multitude of places across the island to select from, including CrossFit Siam, CrossFit Phuket, Phuket Fight Club and Lyuten Fitness Squad.

6. Yoga /Pilates

These disciplines offer the opportunity to create some distance from the stress of everyday life and find a little peace of mind. Phuket has an abundance of yoga and Pilates studios to pick from, some with more specialist offerings and others with a wider variety of drop in or weekly classes.

Some studios include Yoga Republic, Maya Pilates, Abbysan and Yoga Connections, although the list could go on and on! If you fancy a more private yoga or Pilates experience, you can book a private session with one-to-one instruction at Palm Fitness near Surin Beach.
