PHUKET’S BEST BEACHES

Phuket’s amazing beaches are its biggest attraction for most visitors, the whole west coast is beach after beautiful beach of the finest golden sands framed by a sea of brilliant turquoise and emerald hues, tall casuarina trees, coconut palms and lush green hillside.

In the northern part of Phuket, the beaches are wide, long stretches of sand, ideal for strolls and beachcombing. Mai Khao is closest to the airport, located within the Sirinat National Park it’s a nesting ground for sea turtles which protects it from development, and means it’s quiet and even deserted at times.

You can find some bamboo stalls selling drinks and simple Thai snacks but apart from that its golden sands are perfect for a few hours of peace.

Chilled Bang Tao Beach

A beach of contrasts, Bang Tao is a long wide bay lined with luxurious resorts and villas alongside villagers still make their living as their ancestors did, by fishing.

At the northern tip it’s still possible to have the beach to yourself, whilst Laguna Phuket, a large resort complex, takes up the middle section. There’s a lot more going on at the southern end with stylish open-air bars and restaurants, and the best beach clubs and restaurants on the island.

Chill-out during the day on a sun lounger at Catch Beach Club and stay on for the evening when it becomes a popular party venue, for families with children Catch Junior is just next door!

Or, just at the southern tip of Bang Tao, enjoy the sunset with your soul mate sipping a signature cocktail and admiring the views of traditional Thai fishing boats at Palm Seaside Lounge & Bar.

Peaceful Kamala Beach

The pace is quieter at beautiful Kamala Beach, a relaxing spot that hangs onto its traditional Thai-style ambiance, attracting the local expats and young families more than tourists looking to party.
Enjoy a champagne cocktail under the trees at HQ Beach Lounge, a chic and stylish beach lounge at the far northern end, or book a cabana for the day, it includes a free bottle of Moët Ice Champagne, and soak up the chic simplicity of this perfect setting.
KATA BEACH

Family-Friendly Kata Beach

Swim in the calm waters or sit back on the silky sands and watch the beach scene at Kata Beach in the south of the island. This pleasant bay is popular with everyone due to its spectacular setting. There’s also plenty of activities and dining options on the beach itself, and it’s within walking distance of the lively nightlife and hotels.
Satisfy your appetite at the modern Kata Rocks restaurant, located on the headland. Taste the delectable Mediterranean fare and Thai favourites whilst admiring the sweeping views of the Andaman coast.

Beautiful Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn Beach is tucked into a small bay at the very southern tip of Phuket, its fine white sands and sparkling waters make it a popular place to swim. There is a temple just behind which has prevented development, so it’s a nice quiet beach with no noisy jet skis or banana boats.
Have a massage then grab some lunch from one of the local Thai restaurants, or watch the luxury yachts as they drop anchor in the high season. Indulge in a lazy breakfast or sunset happy hour at the stylish Rock Salt Bar at the Nai Harn Hotel overlooking the bay.

Beach Safety & Tips

During the high season, November to April, the west coast beaches are safe to swim with warm, clear waters. From May to October waves can get pretty high with rip tides, perfect for surfers and kite-boarders.
Some of the beaches use the international flag warning system and have lifeguards, but many of the beaches don’t have any safety measures. Stay within the designated swimming areas, and if a red flag is flying on the beach, don’t swim there.
